Julie E. Townsend
Broker-in-Charge. Julie earned a B.A. in Political Science, and she double-majored in History, in 1983; a Master's in English in 1993; and she began selling real estate in 1984 in Charlotte (see "Background)). Aside from enjoying helping people with their real estate needs, Julie also is a published author. She has been active in the creative-writing community in Ashe County. In September of 2012, Mountain Memoirs: An Ashe County Anthology, made its debut. Julie was also one of the editors as well as contributors.In 2015, she published an addiitonal collection, with her writing friends, titled Reflections of the New River. For years, Julie had dual careers: not only did she broker, but she also was a writing Lecturer at the University of North Carolina for nineteen years, but then she taught at Appalchian State University for four years.
Jana was born in Huntsville, Alabama, but raised in Charlotte, NC. She received a BA in Speech Communications from UNC-Wilmington. Jana was an Office Manager for ten years before beginning her Real Estate career with the prominent Allen Tate Real Estate Company in Rock Hill, SC. She has worked in General Brokerage as well as New Home Construction for the last twenty years in North and South Carolina. She is licensed in both states. Jana and her husband fell in love with Ashe and Watauga counties, so they decided to make this area their primary residence. Doug, her husband, is also a licensed real estate agent, who assists Jana, and he also helps at the office every week. Aside from helping clients with their buying and selling needs, Jana enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and Bodhi,their beloved dog. As an interesting side note, Pat, Jana's mother, used to work with Sandra Townsend, in Charlotte, back in the 1970's. Ironically or maybe coincidentially, her mother and Julie's mother, moved to Ashe County, and they live in the same development.
Pam came to Ashe County from the State of Florida, where she began her Real Estate career in 1988. With ambitions to know the market inside and out, she then became a State Certified Building Contractor. She has experience in Land Acquisition, Comptroller, Site Selection, and Design & Construction from multi million dollar developments to single-family home investments. This experience proves to be invaluable when evaluating Real Estate for her client’s investment strategies or their personal home dreams. Pam and Joe, her husband, owned and operated their own Construction Company, Real Estate Company and Property Management Company for many years. As members of the West Jefferson Business Association, they are participating in the revitalization of the Business District as commercial property owners. Pam also has a B.A. in Business Administration from The College of Santa Fe.
Sherry, a native of Ashe County, received her B.A. in Political Science from UNC-Greensboro and post graduate certifications in real estate and estate administration at Meredith College. She earned her broker license in 2000, and she is also a certified residential appraiser. Sherry is a real estate problem solver. Sherry sells real estate and operates her own property management company, Ashe Rental Agency
. She enjoys helping clients achieve the best financial results from owning real estate, whether through buying, selling, having vacation rental income, or long term rental investments. Sherry volunteers for the Ashe Suicide Awareness and Prevention Task force. She believes strongly in the value of Ashe County as a great place to live and work.
Anne Goss is a Ashe County native. It is hard to believe that she is one of twelve children! She was raised on a farm, and she has some great stories to tell about that. She was the sales person of the year for Julie E. Townsend, Real estate Services in 2015. She is a mother, grandmother, and a young great-grandmother, as well as a cat lover. She is also an incredible cook/chef. A number of years ago, Anne earned a degree from Wilkes Community College in Business Administration. If you want someone who knows the County, Anne is your man.
As a native of Ashe County, Martin was recruited right out of high school to play baseball for the St. Louis Cardinal's Minor League system. After an injury, he moved back to Ashe County and opened-up the first gym the County had in 1981. Little's gym is still in operation, and it is the largest gym in the County. He is a consummate body-bulder. Debbie, his wife, owns the renowed "Dancing Debbie's." Martin also began selling real estate in 2001, and he joined forces with Julie in 2008. He is very active in his church: West Jefferson First Baptist, and he began "Shoes for Kids," with Melody Rector. This organization makes sure that children have new shoes for the school year. Martin also helps with New Hope, a camp ground for children who suffer from cancer.
Butch was born in Charleston, West Virginia, and he attended West Virginia State, an historic Black College. He studied economics. He sold farm equipment for twenty-five years before joining the Allen Tate Company in Rock Hill, South Carolina, in 1997. Ironically, he and Jana met the first day that they began working for Allen Tate in South Carolina. Butch and his wife are the proud grandparents of three babies. Butch also once owned Home Town Realty in West Jefferson, so he brings a ton of experience to the real estate table. He was also the Sales Person of the year in 2016.
Abbie was born in Atlanta. Her parents were lucky enough to own a second home in Ashe County, so she spent a lot of summers here. She graduated from Meredith College in 2014, with a B.A. in Graphic Design. After graduation, she worked in Atlanta, until she moved to the High Country in September of 2016. She is working as an assistant in the office.
